Pies are the ultimate in comfort food, sweet or savory. Meat and root vegetables baked together in a delicious light and flaky crust, a steak pie is perfect for today’s chilly weather. Throw an impromptu dinner party, tell your friends to bring some red wine et voila.
Ingredients:
Preparation:
-
Dust the steak cubes with flour
-
Melt the butter and fry meat until browned on all sides.
-
Add the diced onions, thyme, carrots, salt, black pepper, and wine and bring to the boil, then let simmer gently till meat is cooked.
-
Preheat the oven to 375F.
-
Pour the meat mixture into a pie dish. Line the rim of the dish with a thin strip of pastry. Lightly brush the strip with beaten egg. Place a piece of pastry across the top of the dish and press the edges together to seal. Make steam holes in the center of the pie and brush the pastry with more egg.
-
Bake for approximately one hour. If the pastry gets too brown, cover with foil. Serve with a side of greens.
